Plot

The city of Omisai is under attack by a ninja overlord, his powerful underbosses, and an army of goons. Now, only a janitor turned ninja protagonist can save the city and his master's bonsai tree business.

Development

Since Almost Hero was released as a physical NES cartridge, the team had to work within the constraints of this old platform.[2] The game was designed as an eclectic mix of the best the genre had to offer in the 8-bit era.[3] Almost Hero offers a fair dose of humor with references to classic cartoons and other beat 'em up games.[4]

Gameplay

Almost Hero was designed to be accessible to players of all skill levels, but to offer content for hardcore games and speed runners as well.[5] Couch co-op is also highlighted. Players can tackle levels in any order they want, and can return to their master to buy healing items and upgrades, such as Foot Passion VHS tapes that unlock special kicking moves.[6]
