"Take control of the ship" is a mission objective in Sequence 10 / Memory 01: Black Bart's Gambit
Walkthrough[edit]
Use the nearby rope to swing on out to the Portuguese ship. Kill the Captain and you will take control of the ship. This can be done as Edward is letting go of the rope, just be sure that the Captain is on deck before you start your swing. Doing this will also ensure that you finish without engaging in combat proper.
