"Kill enemies with hanging barrels" is an optional mission objective in Sequence 2 / Memory 01: A Simple Plan
Walkthrough[edit]
This objective becomes active once you begin the Reach Laboratory and remains active through the rest of the memory until you need to escape the rubble.
Dive down from the vantage point into the haycart. Wait for the two Thugs to finish talking and for the farther Thug to turn their back. When they do, whistle to get the attention of the nearby Thug. He will come over to investigate. When he does, get him with a Cover Assassination. Now, exit the haycart and eliminate the far Thug either by moving in and killing him or with a carefully aimed Headshot with a Throwing Knife. If he rushes you, just wait for him to come after you behind the haycart. Kill him when he gets there.
Now, head over to the right of the vantage point. Go to the building there and climb up it. From up here, you can see 3 Thugs. 2 of them are underneath a set of hanging barrels. When the Thugs are underneath the barrels, throw a knife into the rope above the barrels to have them come crashing down on the thugs below. Quickly find and locate the last Thug. Kill him with a headshot using a Throwing Knife.
Head back over to the left side of the tracks now. You will find another hanging barrel and another pair of Thugs. One of the thugs will patrol around.
This makes timing critical to get two more kills with hanging barrels. Wait for both of them to get together. When they do is when you want to throw the knife.
To the right of the tunnels underneath train tracks, toward the building, in the lower part of the train yard you will find another set of hanging barrels over a Brute. Simply be sure that the Brute is underneath the barrels and throw a knife into the ropes above it. It helps to stand and not be sneaking when you are making this throw so you can see the Brute below with Eagle Vision active. Be sure to resume hiding after the throw to avoid begin seen by the onlookers and the one person on the bridge above.
This will complete the optional objective and secure you extra money.
