Parrying a blow

A move that is, and always has been, integral to combat in the Assassin's Creed games.

This move makes its return in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag.

Parrying[edit]

The parry is the crux of Edward's defensive arsenal.

By hitting the block button at just the right time, Edward can parry an enemy's melee attack with his blade, throwing them off balance.

From here, there are two types of parries that it is possible to perform.

Offensive Parry[edit]

This parry will deflect the enemy's attack and launch back with a powerful, instal-kill melee attack of Edward's own.

These attacks are brutal, and animate differently depending on which weapon Edward has equipped.

Common counter attacks include shoving the Hidden Blade through an enemy's mouth or eye, and slicing their throat with a rapier.

Disarm[edit]

The disarm removes the enemy's weapon from his possession, leaving him open to attack.

Edward can pick up the weapon for himself after disarming it.
