Hyperius the Invincible is a raid boss in Borderlands 2.

Strategy[edit]

Hyperius Abilities[edit]

Minions: (Phase 1)[edit]

There are relatively simple bots that prevent Hyperius from taking damage until they are all destroyed. They only have one attack: easily avoidable missiles. The issues come with the fact that each bot will put up a shield after taking a certain amount of damage (might be 10% of health) that reduces damage from any source (grenades/siren stuff/etc might still work). There are 4 bots that spawn at the beginning.

Missiles: (Phase 1 + 2)[edit]

Easily avoidable, but high damage.

Explosion: (Phase 1 + Phase 2)[edit]

This is what gets a majority of people. He can do anywhere from 1 to 3 in a row dependent on several factors: a ~30 second timer, his shield status, and his minion-link status. You can tell when he is about to let off a blast by carefully watching his animation sequence and recognizing the phrases he says. If he is going to release multiple blasts, there is an extra particle effect on him. Eating 1-2 is possible when you are at full health/shields, but three is next to impossible to survive. I'm not quite sure whether it is Percentage based w/ a minimum damage, but it definitely did at least 30k total (after standard resists) to a level 50 siren.

However, there is a way to avoid the damage. If you have a commando friend spec'd into the turret shield, everyone in your party can stand inside to negate all of the damage. The goal here is to treat the turret like a raid cooldown - pop it when Hyperius starts his animation/phrase and immediately recall the turret(s) once he's done exploding. Alternatively, find an explosion proof shield. Depending on your social circle and the rate at which shields drop, you may want to focus on one or the other.

Leap/Melee: (Phase 2)[edit]

Hyperius will leap at a random party member and create a shockwave at the landing point. Avoidable if you sprint away using good timing.

Res Sickness: (Phase 1 + Phase 2)[edit]

This is pretty much a verbatim copy of the classic MMO penalty for dying. On each revive, you lose health. This makes surviving explosions difficult, if not impossible.

Strategy[edit]

Using Bee shields in conjunction with corrosive weaponry, Phase 1 can be shortened considerably.

Regardless of party composition, Hyperius will start the fight with 1 to 2 explosions while summoning his adds. The general idea is to kite in a circle, direction of travel being irrelevant. If you have a commando, you'll want to keep him alive and help him watch for the telltale signs of an explosions. Focus the adds, ignoring Hyperius for now.

Once all the adds are dead, Hyperius explodes once more, then begins leaping around and firing missiles. You'll want to spread out a bit, but not so much that you cannot make it back under a shield or reach a downed party member. Just keep shooting, and eventually Hyperius will fall.

Alternate Strategy[edit]

If your team uses Tediore weapons(preferably a Baby Maker), you can unload tons of damage(shoot once, toss clip) in the very beginning of the fight, before he summons the adds
