The house in Hateno Village is worth the money. You can get a free-use bed, apple tree with loads of apples, cooking pot, and best of all multiple wall displays to store your weapons, bows, and shields!

This page has tips, hints, and tricks for the game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

General[edit]

  • It's tempting to focus only on increasing hearts at the start, but even a single stamina upgrade is a big improvement from the default, so it's worth getting one early on.
  • Stronger weapons are not necessarily better, as they are much slower to use. Keep some lightweight weapons on you to use on quick enemies.
  • Items you find lying around will respawn after a time, so if you revisit an area make sure to stock up.

Survival[edit]

  • Rainstorms have numerous effects in the game, other than making everything slippery. Rare creatures and plants spawn, travelling merchants offer better deals (both buying and selling), and a few other things.
  • Rain is physics-based, so you can take shelter in a cave or under a structure if you need to light a campfire. Shield surfing is quicker on wet surfaces.
  • Fish can be baited with food. If you chase them to the shore, they'll jump onto land and start flopping around on the ground.
  • Dogs will accompany you if you drop some food for them to eat.
  • You can descend a mountain on horseback quickly by holding ZL and strafing down it.
  • The easiest way to collect firewood is to use bombs on the trees, and then chop the fallen logs with your axe (which is less damaging to the axe than chopping the entire tree). Got about 60+ piles in 10 mins in Retsam Forest alone.
  • Overworld bosses respawn during a Bloodmoon, so you can fight them again for the material drops.
  • Unequip any metallic weapons, bows, shields and and armor during a thunderstorm or you'll get fried.
  • A man at East Akala Stables sells buns for 10 Rupees that sometimes give you an entire extra temporary Stamina bar. Handy if you're about to do something that requires tons of Stamina.

Dungeons[edit]

  • Shrine puzzles usually have multiple ways to solve them. You don't always have to do what the solution that's presented to you appears to be.
  • Dungeons cannot be revisited after completion, so make sure you've found everything before you leave.

Horses[edit]

  • Horses can be warped to a stable. Useful if you need to retrieve them, or if they get stuck.
  • If your horse is too far away and you come across wild horses, you can just "borrow" them without it replacing your active horse. They only become yours once registered.
  • If you've bonded with your horse, they will automatically follow pathways.

Misc[edit]

  • Fast Travel works almost any time, so you can warp to safety if you're about to be killed or fall to your death.
  • The house in Hateno Village is worth the money. You can get a free-use bed, apple tree with loads of apples, cooking pot, and best of all multiple wall displays to store your weapons, bows, and shields!
