History[edit]
The Awoken are said to have been born out of the Collapse. They are rumored to be the descendents of those who tried to flee from the conflict between The Darkness and the Traveler. Something happened to these refugees as they pushed out toward the edges of Deep Sea and into the Blackness beyond. When they returned they had become like the ethereal beings of ancient human lore. No one knows what among the Awoken.
In present day, many of the Awoken live on the Reef. They are fairly aloof and mysterious. They answer to the reclusive sovereign of the Awoken: the Queen. Others have returned to Earth to defend the City. Those who head out to the Reef from Earth find no special welcome there.
Physiology[edit]
The Awoken have skin that varies from a deep blue to a stark white. They have seem to have a constant flow of energy along the surface of their temples and scalp. The eyes tend to be very bright colors.
