When a character reaches level 20, they will be able to get faction specific class gear: a cloak, a mark or a bond.
Wearing a faction's attire when turning in bounty will yield reputation for that faction instead of the usual gain of Vanguard or Crucible. This can be helpful if you are going after particular gear.
