Your weapons make a big difference. There are one of the class defining things in EverQuest Next
As you go through the game and find all the different Classes, each class has a couple of weapons. Lets say that you pick the Warrior. The Warrior has the big Halberd, and a Longsword. Each has different abilities. For example the Halberd is good for sweeping attacks against multiple targets, while the Longsword is good against single targets and for parrying.
As you start advancing your characters though, you can mix and match little pieces on the weapons to actually change what they do.
