The Thaumaturge is a Class in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn available to players during Character Creation

Description[edit]

Formidable spell slinging mages that utilise their aether to summon magicks from the abyss. Thaumaturges reek elemental devastation upon their unsuspecting foes from afar.

Playstyle[edit]

Thaumaturges lack the HP required to survive most encounters and are also limited by the low defense cloth armor they equip, however where the lack in defense they more then compensate with raw damage.

The Thaumaturge utilises the iconic spells from the Final Fantasy series Fire, Blizzard,and Thunder.

Using fire will grant a stacking buff (at later levels of THM) of Astral Fire increasing the damage of consecutive casts of Fire while also increasing it's mana cost. Astral Fire also reduces the MP cost of your next Blizzard spell and the Astral Fire effect is consumed when Blizzard is cast.

Casting Blizzard also grants a stacking buff known as Umbral Ice. This effect significantly increases MP regeneration, while also lowering damage. This effect also reduces the mana cost of Fire. Casting Fire will consume a stack of Umbral Ice.

Balancing your two buffs is essential to a Thaumaturge's playstyle. Making use of the Thaumaturge's Transpose ability which allows for all stacks of Astral Fire to switch to Umbral Ice and vice versa. Balancing damage and MP regeneration is key so the Thaumaturge may keep casting his or her spells to devastate any enemy the Thaumaturge encounters.

Casting Thunder places a damage over time (DOT) effect on the target periodically dealing damage to the target. This effect is maximized when fighting opponents with large amounts of HP.

Your traits give you some interesting dynamics to your spellcasting allowing some spells you cast to have either increased damage, no MP consumed when cast, or an instant cast.
