Head for the marker closer to Ricky's position to start toward the front entrance.
There is a sizable mine field in front of the building. You can either keep on the far side of it and start sniping the Synths and Machine Gun Turret that is set up on the Western side of the location.
As you make your actual approach on the Slocum Joes' location, use VATS to locate the various Frag Mines. You can either shoot them or quickly approach them and pick them up, disarming them.
When you start into the building itself, be on guard for any Synths that are still alive inside. They can fall back and be in cover deeper inside the restaurant.
Once inside the location, go to the back right and look to the left. You will see a staircase leading downward. Take it. This lead down to Slocum Joe's Basement. Get inside it and go down the stairs there.
Go the left and then go to the bookcase at the far end. Deacon will tell you the entrance is hidden behind it. Interact with it.
And it turns out the Synths powered down the elevator here. The objective will fail. This means its time to exit and there are likely to be yet more Synths waiting for you just upstairs. Surprisingly, there will not be more Synths rushing you. Just means there are more to worry about when you head for the escape passage.
Strategy Guide/Tips[edit]
- You can talk with Ricky Dalton and persuade him Medium for some Sniper support or Difficult for a direct distraction. Both are likely to get him killed, the distraction more so.
- This passage into the base is blocked off. Just do not bother until you want the experience and the loot from the synths.
