Backstory[edit]

Father is the present leader of the Institute. He has a firm belief that the Institute is the best hope for humanity in this world of post-nuclear devastation. he has an irrational fear of the surface. He seeks to take humanity deeper underground. This is to put more distance between humanity and the Mutants, Radiation and other dangers the world presents.

When the Sole Survivor enters into the Institute, he tries to sway them to this point of view. Almost immediately he will give them unlimited access to the Institute.

Father does not require the rest of the Institute to follow his beliefs. While he does have a degree of contempt for those living on the surface, he will allow them to be recruited into the Institute.

Spoilers[edit]

Father is the nickname for Shaun, the child that the Sole Survivor is looking for. He was less than a year old when he and his parents went into Vault 111. He was left there with his family for 150 years, until the Institute found the records of the Vault. They had need of genetic material untouched by the radioactivity of the Commonwealth. This genetic material was needed for them to begin their third generation of Synths.

Sometime in 2227 the Institute sent out [[Fallout 4: Conrad Kellogg|Conrad Kellogg]. Kellogg revived the parents and tried to take Shaun. He shot that parent for resisting and then refroze the others. He then terminated the life support to the other pods aside from the one holding the sole survivor.

Shaun was raised in the Institute as one of their own. Later he become the director of the Institute.

Shaun reveals that he was responsible for the Sole Survivor reviving.
