Donning the uniform

The Privateer Uniform is an item obtained around 2/3 of the way through Far Cry 3 which allows the player to disguise himself as one of Hoyt's Privateers, thus allowing the player unimpeded access to the Southern Island.

Uses[edit]

The uniform is used mainly to get around on the Southern Island without being troubled by Hoyt's patrols.

However, there are some caveats to wearing the uniform.

For one, if the player passes through a enemy outpost, the enemies inside will immediately see through your disguise. This is ostensibly because the area is off limits to any and all personnel other than those already inside of the camp, but when you see enemy patrols pass right through with nary a hand raised in protest, you'll know this not to be true. From a game design standpoint, it simply would have broken the game to allow players to go running into every enemy outpost unimpeded. Thus, enemies still attack when you enter the red area outlined on your map.

Certain missions will also place restrictions on your use of the uniform, specifically those in which you're riding shotgun with Sam, as these missions tend to have explosive results.
