After a battle with Jormungand, Thor's spirit laid dormant inside his armor, with his flesh unresponsive. Loki then summoned the Destroyer to further batter his body. Though Loki's instructions were to end his brother's life once and for all, the Destroyer sensed Thor's undying spirit and chose instead to absorb him into its being.
