With patch 1.7.0 for iOS, the Buddy System has been implemented into Pokemon Go. This allows the trainer to assign one Pokemon to walk with them as they travel around.
Depending on the kind of Pokemon, this will determine how far you will need to travel to earn candy for walking with the Pokemon. The Trainer can freely change which Pokemon is walking with them at any time.
- DO NOT EVOLVE the Pokemon you are walking with mid-walk. This resets the distance traveled with them.
- Any time you switch Pokemon Buddies, progress is reset.
Assigning a Pokemon[edit]
Go into the Trainer Screen and hit the icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
You will find the option Buddy. Choose it.
You can now access any of your Pokemon and assign them to travel with you. They can be seen walking next to your trainer.
While you travel around, there will be a small distance meter that fills next to your buddy.
When it is full, you will be rewarded with a Candy for that Pokemon.
Getting Candy[edit]
Pokemon, again, break down into distance categories. Some Pokemon it is not take walking far to get more Candies for them. Some will take a longer time to yield results.
1 km = 0.62
3 km = 1.86 miles
5 km = 3.11 miles
1 KM Pokemon[edit]
3 KM Pokemon[edit]
5 KM Pokemon[edit]
Unknown KM[edit]
Easter Eggs[edit]
- If you travel 10+ KM with a Pikachu, they will hop onto your Trainer's shoulder and remain there until you change Buddies.
