The quest Beyond Death starts inside the ruined tower in Castle Volkihar after opening the portal to Soul Cairn.

Serana and I have entered the Soul Cairn in pursuit of her estranged mother, Valerica, and the Elder Scroll she took when she fled Castle Volkihar.

Find Valerica
Kill the Boneyard Keepers
Follow Valerica
Slay Durnehviir
Retrieve the Elder Scroll (Blood)
[edit] Walkthrough
Find Valerica behind some sort of energy barrier.
Kill all Boneyard Keepers to bring the barrier down. They are in different locations around the Soul Cairn, just follow the markers on the map. Use Arvak's Mount to travel faster.
Follow Valerica
Kill the Dragon, Durnehviir, that attacks[1]
Get the Elder Scroll

Chasing Echoes, where you find the portal to the Soul Cairn

Unseen Visions, where you perform an ancient ritual in the Ancestor Glade that will allow you to decipher the Elder Scrolls.
