John Verdun is a deserter who was tied up and left to die.
You can rescue John Verdun in the mission, At the Mercy of Strangers.
If you do rescue him, however, him and his bandits get revenge by killing the refugees that tied him up.
If you do not accept the reward when talking to him at his camp, him and his bandits will attack you.
