"Thou Shalt Not Pass" is a secondary quest (side quest) in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

It is one of the side quests you can get in Velen.

This quest begins when you attempt to cross the Pontar from Velen to Novigrad (through the Border Post), or when you try to enter Oxenfurt (through the western gate). The soldiers there will tell you that you need a Transit Pass.

Objectives[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

When you try and cross the Pontar into either Novigrad through the Border Post, or into Oxenfurt via the west gate, the guards will stop you and tell you that you need a Transit Pass

You can either bribe them or use Axii to learn that such passes are being sold at the Black Market.

The easiest way to get this pass is by talking to the Shady Merchant. You will be able to buy a pass for as low as 25 crowns. See: Fake Papers.

There are other ways to get the pass though, either from the Bloody Baron or from doing the contract, Woodland Beast.

Once you obtain the pass, use it to cross the border and that will complete the quest.

Quest Log[edit]

Witcher3ThouShaltNotPassQuestLog.jpg

"Luckily Geralt managed to get his hands on just such a pass and from then on could cross the Pontar border at will. I hope he did not abuse this privilege, jumping back and forth across the border, making faces at the poor wretches stuck on one side and taunting the guards who had no right to stop his antics. He mentioned nothing of the sort, true, but that's just the kind of thing one might choose to keep to oneself."

Dialog[edit]

Redanian Soldier: Halt! No passage. Bridge is closed.

Geralt: Because?

Redanian Soldier: Cause King Radovid said it should be. Won't let anyone through who don't have a pass.

Geralt: How do I get a pass? Who issues these passes?

Redanian Soldier: Why you need to know? Your kind don't get passes, anyway. Not thr right type, heheh.

1. (10) I'm sure we can figure something out

2. (Axii) Just tell me who issues passes

Geralt: Come on, give it a good think... I'm sure you know where I can get a pass.

Redanian Soldier: Err... Yeah... Royal officials issue'em. But they're also available on the black market.

Geralt: From who?

Redanian Soldier: Don't know the names. Ask folk around the crossin's. They'll know more.

Geralt: Do just that.

Strategy Guide/Tips[edit]

  • Rather than getting a pass. you could swim across the Pontar. However, this is less convenient and you might also get attacked by archers and guards.
