"Escape the area" is a mission objective in Sequence 9 / Memory 01: Starving Times

Walkthrough

Head either to the North or the West. Just run. There is no need for being stealthy at this point as you have what you were after (and most likely all the guards coming through are cleared out. Once out of the search area, another cutscene will run. It is easily to achieve running along the bank of the river. Arno will have more to look into after that.
