Abilities[edit]

M1[edit]

  • Use to initiate on the enemy team. Be wary of counter characters.
  • If the enemy has ignite on them, try to land m1 to refresh the debuff before it runs out
  • Don’t stand still or always move in the same pattern. If you’re in range of the enemy’s abilities then make sure to move left/right if they’re above/below you and moving up/down if they’re left/right of you.
  • Back off if you’re losing a trade. Be wary of enemy positioning. Don’t trade hits when two people are going ham on you.
  • Weave in and out of others’ range. Move in as you finish casting a M1 and then move out of their range before their projectile hits you.
  • Do not hold M1 against characters with proc on ability use abilities. Put a brief pause on ability use in between M1’s so you can prevent the procs.
    • Jade E
    • Iva E
    • Poloma Q
  • Use on easy to hit targets to farm energy
  • Use to inflict ignite/knockback after a space

M2[edit]

  • Use to bait counters
    • Hit someone with a counter ability once and then turn away or cancel cast.
    • Aim slightly away from their hitbox if they have good reflexes
    • Aim at someone with a counter ability during the cast time but then actually aim and hit someone else on their team
  • Try to hit multiple targets to inflict ignite
  • Do not use when the enemy can go ham on you
  • Be wary of enemy abilities that are on proc on ability use. Be ready to cancel cast. Can also use to bait them to use that ability
  • Use to knock back melee away from you or from teammates. Be wary of reflects and other defensive maneuvers the enemy may have.
  • Can channel entire thing into someone if they have nothing to dodge it

SPACE[edit]

  • Use to dodge crucial enemy abilities
  • Lucie panic flask/petrify
  • Use offensively to bait enemy usage of abilities such as counters or movement abilities
  • Use to snipe the rune with 10 damage
  • Use to bait the enemy into focusing you

E[edit]

  • Use to dodge crucial enemy abilities
  • Knock away enemy healers and then focus on the other
  • Knock away melee heroes. Be wary of defensive maneuvers such as counter.
  • Don’t always use on characters with counter abilities. Use it simply as a way to get away rather than hitting someone.
  • Be mindful of the direction you are knocking someone in.
  • Be careful not to knock enemies into your allies
  • Use on the rune in an attempt to stop enemy team from getting the last hit

Q[edit]

  • Use on counter characters when you think they are going to use counter. Do not land M1 or any other counter triggering abilities before the volcano hits them.
  • If you know you can land volcano then you can channel M2 for at least one guaranteed hit without proccing counter or anything else. Can also use ult instead of M2.
  • Use to snipe the rune
  • Use alongside M1 to deal a burst of 32 damage to the rune

R[edit]

  • Use to stop projectile based ults on you or an ally or any high damaging projectile
  • Use when you don’t have space or E as a defensive mechanism against projectile based abilities such as panic flask
  • Use to bait counters/outs of the enemy team
  • Use offensively to deal damage with the BR for firewall

EX1[edit]

  • Knock opponents into the fog
  • Use when health is low. Can attack rune for hp.
  • Use to bait counters
  • Great for 1v1

EX2[edit]

  • Use when melee heroes are attacking you and you are/will take a lot of damage while space and E are not up.
  • Use for rune control
  • Use to peel pressure off your ally
  • Use to stop channeled ults
  • Use to combo with other CC if you’re trying to burst the other target on enemy team.
  • When fog closing in, combo with e and 1 fireball from M2 on counter characters

ULT[edit]

  • In general avoid using if they can avoid using an out. Wait until they have no out. Force their outs by being aggressive.
  • Combo with volcano if you land Volcano. Be wary of Poloma other side or Lucie clarity, Pearl bubble shield, Oldur ultimate, Iva shock shield off volcano
  • Use to take the rune.

General[edit]

Be wary of characters with counter abilities. You can purposely miss an ability to bait counter if they have good reaction speed. If they do not have good reaction speed typically they will counter randomly so you just have to wait them out. Make sure you have space or E before putting yourself at risk of hitting a counter.

Know how much damage all your abilities do for rune control as well as what the other enemy team are capable of. Do not just attack the rune senselessly hoping that you will get it every time all the time. TIME your hits so that you will get it if the enemy team is not CC’ed or far away from the rune.

Move unpredictably in general. This not applies only while casting M1 but movement entirely. Do not always move in linear directions. Change directions often but don’t use the same pattern all the time or the enemy will catch on.

Don’t use all your outs/defensive abilities when your opponent has not used their EX/R abilities because they’re waiting for you to blow your outs before ulting.

Don’t tank the world just to grab the rune. Many players overestimate the power of the rune and risk all their hp to get it. Another strategy is to just dish out damage to the other team while they try to get the rune.

In 99% of cases, you don’t want to ult while the fog is fairly enclosed in. Just spam EX1, EX2, and fire wall.

Battlerites[edit]

R1:

Only Blaze(Middle choice). You don’t want to be a cripple. Trust me.

R2:

Only Fire Ward(Right choice)

R3:

Heat(Left choice) is good if you are being chased often. Typically against at least one melee character.

Ember Fire(Middle choice) is only good if you're having trouble surviving and you can reliably land it. Works on the rune for 14 hp every time. It's easy to combo with CC or on a Varesh. Would take this more often in 3's than in 2's.

I almost always take Conflagration(Right choice) in 3's. I usually take this in 2's as well if there is at least one ranged and I don't worry too much about being chased. Sometimes taking this against two melees is also viable because you rarely have the opportunity to channel an m2 while they chase your teammate.

R4:

Inspiration(Left choice) is great if you're having trouble surviving or you use EX abilities or firewall often. [Typically choose this for most match ups]

I take Slayer(Middle choice) if I just want to murder someone. Also good against double healer.

I take Magma(Right choice) when playing against Taya, Freya, or I have a Croak that also takes his 12% slow.

R5:

Always Everlasting fire(Right choice). Since Pure Fire costs 50% energy to use, this is too good to pass up.

Best pair-ups[edit]

Depends on play style. Personally, I prefer Lucie and Croak.

I think it can potentially be good with anything except Varesh and Iva.

Tips against other characters[edit]

Lucie[edit]

Open on her by just walking up to her and m1 if her teammate lets you. If you’re winning m1 battle continue to do so. If you are losing, space in and shoot m1 on her. If she has a habit of pre casting clarity then next time wait a bit before shooting it. Be wary of panic flask and petrify. Should save space or E to dodge it. Use firewall to predict petrify if you can’t react to dodging with space/E. Use space/E to avoid damage on deadly injection. Can use M2 on her if her panic flask cooldown is down or channel m2 to bait while ready to cancel and use space/E to avoid. If you use space/E and she cancel casts Panic flask, then you can use the other to dodge the next one or fire wall.

Sirius[edit]

Try not to be in close range of him. You can walk somewhat close to him and then walk back to try and bait his charged m1. Typically you can do this in the beginning if he’s trying to run up to you on mount. Save at least space or E to dodge his petrify if you can’t just walk out of it. If he’s spacing towards you, use E to knock him back as soon as he lands. Use volcano on him when you think he’s going to counter, typically after his space. You’re going to want to be cautious and save space when he has ult. He may try to use ex1 to try and bait your outs. If you use space to avoid them, then you want to play defensively by moving away from him so he can’t space on you while your cooldowns reset. After he has no counter you can deal a lot of damage to him with m1 or m2, but don’t get close to him because he can R + charged m1 you. Never ult with the weaken debuff on you unless you’re about to die.

Iva[edit]

You’ll have trouble initiating with M1’s since his M2 out ranges you. You can try staying mounted until he uses his m2 then run in and m1. Click m1 and don’t hold since he can tazer you. After tazer is down you can m2/hold m1. Use space to avoid damage on his M2 and then attack him. He may use shock shield or jetpack to avoid your buffed M1 attack so you can just move around and not attack or go for his teammate. Try to land M1 after his shock shield is applied so the debuff is on him. M2 is easy to land when his space is down or he’s flying in the air. If he has the double jetpack BR, then you can volcano where he flew from if you think he’s going to fly back or channel M2. After he uses jetback,  go deep on him and throw a firewall in front of him and with the firewall battlerite you can do a lot to him, especially if he doesn’t have shock shield up. In 3v3, he will most likely take double tazer, in which case you need to be very wary of the bounce. Firewall is very effective against him.

Rook[edit]

Be very wary of cancel casts on space. Don’t let him bait you into using them and if you do, make sure to back off out of his range to wait for your cooldowns to come up again. His rock throw is pretty unavoidable and you don’t want to drag on the fight into fog as he will most likely win. You can use space offensively to bait his counter but don’t get too close to him because he can m2 you and with the stun battlerite you can get punished hard. Can also bait counters with M2. If he doesn’t cancel cast, the best way to deal with him is E his space and he’s done. If he’s always going after your teammate, then stand in line of sight of him and E him away. Just m1 him at a range but be wary of his counter if he has it. Once his counter is down, you can go ham on him but don’t get too close to him. Typically Rooks will use the rock to take the rune. Use volcano on where the rune will land. Don’t ult him if he hasn’t used m2. His space has a longer cast time so it’s hard for him to react to ult. If you see him casually walking towards you, expect him to use his R to smack you into a wall. You want to avoid his R at all cost. It’s better if he spaces on you compared to a R combo since you can use ex2 to avoid the damage. He may or may not use his m2 after he spaces on you so be wary of that.

Jade[edit]

You’ll be using M1 often against this character. If you actually land them you’ll out trade her but not if you get silenced. Do not hold M1 against her if she still has silence up. Typically good jades will always try to get 25% energy for immaterial asap. If you land all your m1’s on her early, you can stop her from getting energy with a firewall and win trades early in the round. A good strategy is to use firewall to prevent snipe on the rune. If she attempts snipe at full rune hp you can M1 the rune afterward for the rune (unless she has snipe battlerite and lucie 15% dmg buff). You can really only go aggressive on her if her silence, space, and stealth/immaterial is down. A good Jade will cancel cast often and possibly change their Snipe target at the last second. Don’t be wasting your defensive abilities on every snipe sound you hear. It is very easy to fire wall where they are aiming from if you see the location that she goes stealth in if you are not next to her when she does it. You can try to land volcano on her as her immaterial ends.

Oldur[edit]

If his teammate ignores you, you can walk up to oldur and have m1 wars and space in before sands of time procs. If you’re out of combat with sands of time on you, then you can space or E to avoid the 12 damage. You can space in aggressively at the same time to accomplish two things at once. Be very wary of his reflect bubble while you’re casting M2. Spacing in aggressively will typically trigger his space or time bender so don’t M1 immediately. You’ll have to hold onto ults frequently or use firewall against teams with Oldur on it. Typically they are waiting for you to ult before blowing off their ult. You can safely ult once you see him use his energy. Be wary being too close to him as he can petrify you. If you see an oldur casually trying to walk up to you while healing his teammate or something, expect petrify. If you see oldur spacing towards you, expect petrify. You’ll want to avoid his aoe if you can as it does a lot of damage. Oldurs will definitely try to bubble to rune which leaves you with a few options. 1. Let them take the rune. 2. Space in and attack them so they are taking some damage more than the orb is worth. 3. Space in and ex2 4. Volcano the rune 5. Ultimate …. You get the point.

Ashka[edit]

Basically when you’re one step ahead you can’t lose. Not much to say here. Just watch out you don’t get caught in an M2 combo. You can counter fire wall with fire wall or just back out. You’ll want to save space or E if you think he has ult. He’s going to be pressuring you into using both of them before ulting.

Varesh[edit]

Against most Varesh you can space in and then they will attempt to counter immediately. Sets up an easy volcano combo. When his counter is down you can pretty much channel a full M2 into him. Put up a fire wall and he can’t really do much against you but be wary of his E if you have the m2 debuff on you. You can also use fire wall to bait his counter. Make sure to save space or E to avoid his ult. Varesh will win a trade if he’s landing all of his abilities so don’t go too ham. If you know he’s going to counter and you hit it at a distance, you can space in time before the effect hits you. You will not win a trade against a good Varesh. Both his M2 and E(with M2 debuff on you, especially with the silence battlerite) is worth avoiding with space/E.

Pearl[edit]

You’ll want to space or E to avoid empowered M1 silence. Volcano to bait space or if you’re looking to deal damage when you think he’s going to counter typically after a space. In general, you won’t be able to do much damage against her unless you collapse with ults because her bubble is very strong. It will negate an entire M2 or firewall combo. You can save your volcano when she’s hiding behind her bubble as well. She will use bubble for rune control too. You can save volcano in an attempt to snipe the rune.

Taya[edit]

Use space or E to avoid her x-strike attack. You can stop her ult by spacing toward her and using EX1.Otherwise, a firewall and moving around it will prevent damage done by her ult too. You’ll want to be wary of her R ability as she can help her allies avoid your ult so if you’re trying to kill her teammate, be aware that your ult can miss. You can also juke her by going for her instead of her teammate. You’ll be using fire wall very often against Taya in general especially if she has the cold wind BR. If you get hit by that snare, you’ll want to space or E away to avoid further damage or fire wall. You can E the rune as Tayas often use x-strike to take the rune. Abuse your M2 because it outranges her. If you get caught in a wind bomb, it’s better to space/E out immediately to avoid m1 damage. Don’t get too close if you have no outs left for X strike.

Poloma[edit]

This is the easiest support for Ashka to murder. If she hits you with her space, then you can channel your M2 to bait her to teleport to you and use fear. Just cancel cast shortly before that and don’t press any buttons. After she fails fear, she will most likely other side or just run away. You can punish her hard especially if other side is down. Just hold m1 on her and you’ll win. If she uses her R ability, then put a fire wall up and attack her back. Another way to bait fear is to space on top of her. In general, you want to keep a distance between you and her on the borderline of the hitbox for fear. Start casting ult right before her other side will end and you’ll probably hit her.

Croak[edit]

Walk backwards if he stealths mid-range from you. He won’t be able to reach you if he didn’t take the movement BR. If he frog leaps in range of you, you can hit a M1 on him before he leaps again if you time it right. Before he can do anything out of the second frog leap, you can guaranteed hit him again. After his frog leap is down he can only stealth or lunge. You can pretty much channel M2 on him or E him away and he’s done until frog leap is back up again. You’ll want to be wary of his EX1 and use E or space to dodge a 4 second blind. Be wary of spacing aggressively or E’ing aggressively as he may walk backwards instead of going for you. EX2 is great when you don’t have space or E. You can 100% land it if he tries to get in with frog leap on his first or second frog leap with correct timing. You’ll want to worry about positioning because he can also go for your ally. Don’t get too far apart from your ally. Harass him with M1 or M2  while he’s not in melee range. If you know where his last frog leap is going to be, throw a volcano over that location.

Freya[edit]

You’ll see two types of Freyas nowadays. Generally, you want to keep Freya not too close but not too far either. Don’t trade m1’s with her if you have static on you. The first type is twin hammers. You’ll be harassed with hammers and have to be wary of static and if you’re next to a wall. You can go aggressive on these types of Freyas more so she won’t have time to recharge both hammers while in an engage. You can use space to bait space/q/E. If she E’s, then you can hit her no matter what with correct timing as she lands before she has a chance to do anything else. You can negate her entire ult with E with correct timing and knock her back. It’s good to channel a full M2 into her while her counter is down. If you hit her counter, wait until her channeling is done before E’ing her away or you’ll proc it again and move nowhere except lose a cooldown. Try not to stand near walls if you can help it especially if you have static on you. If you know she has ult, then you can bet on that she’s trying to incap you to wall before ulting. If you’re in a 1v1 and she’s playing passive, you’ll want to be more aggressive. You’ll most likely lose in fog.

The second type of Freya takes the stun battlerite on space. In which case you need to save space/E to avoid to mini stun so you don’t take a burst of damage. Her space has a small jump distance so you can easily just stay out of her of her. You don’t have to worry as much if you don’t have static on you.

If you’re in a 1v1 and she’s playing passive, you’ll want to be more aggressive. You’ll most likely lose in fog.

Shifu[edit]

If you get hit by his E, you can E him away before he has time to channel his counter. Otherwise, it is very risky to E him away in other scenarios. Only do so if you have space up or you have ways to deal with it or want to take a huge risk in hitting the counter and have nothing for it. You can always E in some open direction just for some extra distance between you. Channeling and canceling M2 is a great way to bait his counter. You can safely ult him for the most part after his space immaterial is down. If you hit a counter, you can throw a volcano over you and if he’s still around you, he’ll get stunned. And if that happens without his space, you can also channel a full M2 into him. You can easily E him away during his ult, but make sure not to E him into your teammate. When applicable, it’s better to just E away rather than hitting him into your teammate. Against a good shifu, you’re pretty much done for if you hit any counters. Make sure to punish him while he has no counter/immaterial up.

Bakko[edit]

You should save your E for his space. You can knock him away and avoid the damage. Channel/cancel M2 to bait his reflect. You might be able to get him to use his bulwark with aggressive space as well so don’t M1 immediately. You can safely land ult the moment his space lands. You’ll want to avoid long-distance fights against him because his axe out ranges you. Typically, you’ll want to space aggressively. Preferably, to avoid an axe hit at the same time. Don’t be afraid to channel an entire M2 into him after bulwark is down. You can time it so that the first projectile comes out the moment bulwark is done. As with every other character, be wary of his ult. Save space or E for it. Make sure not to E toward him because you can’t knock him back. And try not to E in a direction where the aoe might hit you.

Jumong[edit]

Not much to say here. The best way to beat him is to space on him immediately as the round starts and land all your m1’s to have firewall before he has 25% energy. Pretty much all-in tactic here. He will probably space immediately after your space lands so wait for that before m1. If he doesn’t do that, then you can m1 immediately. If he uses prowl, try to hit him with E and back off. Mount up and re-engage. If you miss, you’ll be hit by 32 damage unless he misses all his shots. You can also try engaging him on mount but riskier because if he hits you that’s already 1 free hit he has for double cast space. If this is more mid-round, he will use EX2 if he’s smart. If he walks through you, then put firewall over yourself and move around it while still attacking him. Do not stand in rain of arrows and remember to never disengage because you lose all the pressure unless it’s to grab the orb or the small pick ups. The trade off is the next time you engage he’ll probably start off with double space. It’s better to grab the orb if possible while you are chasing him or if he hits the orb for you to last hit. As with any champion matchup, you need to be wary of what the other enemy is doing so this strategy won’t work for double dps, especially if the Jumong’s teammate is going after you after you blow your cooldowns.
