Addition[edit]
The Crusader was not in the core game, and was added approximately two years after the game's launch in the Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls expansion pack.
The Crusader was the main selling point of the pack, along with a new Act.
Playstyle[edit]
The Crusader is a melee-heavy class best played with a powerful shield and a one-handed weapon.
This tank of a character uses his/her shield to bash through enemies and withstand even the toughest of attacks.
Backstory[edit]
The Crusader is one of the most elite of the game's brand of holy warriors. The source of the Crusader's strength comes from his/her unshakable belief in their cause, which they take to an almost zealous level. This works to their advantage in the battle against Hell, though; unlike other paladin orders, the Crusaders have never once fallen to corruption.
As an extension of their holistic philosophies, the Crusaders live off of the land and try to never take more than their share from the land. The Crusaders are thus a nomadic bunch, roaming the lands in their own pursuit of solidarity. Crusaders have developed a system, a secret language of sorts, to communicate with one another when they encounter fellow Crusaders on the road.
The ultimate goal of the Crusaders is twofold. First, they aim to rid the realm of Zakarum from Mephisto, and then they aim to purge all of Sanctuary of all types of evil.
