There are six character attributes in Divinity Original Sin.
The base for each attribute (newly created character) is 5.
Your new character starts with five attribute points to spend.

Attributes Bonuse and Penalties
Each skill has a different attribute requirement. For example, Ricochet has a Dexterity attribute requirement while Flare has the Intelligence as its attribute requirement. Base attribute is dependent on skill level. See table below:
