The Chest is an interactable object in Divinity: Original Sin
Sometimes you can find treasure inside such as items and gold
If a chest is locked you can try Lockpick it if you have a character that can do it and equipment,
Or otherwise you can try to just use CTRL+click to attack and break it open.
