Dialogue

I

Maol - Here you are. I wonder what keeps you. Tell me your tale.

Sebille - [ELF] *Note that he still speaks as elves do.*

Maol - Their tongue is not my tongue. You may speak of then and when, I do not. I refuse to learn their strange speech!

Sebille - *Ask what he means - you've never met before.*

Maol - We are unfamiliar, yet familiar. We are the same material, you agree. I am very curious. So tell me! Tell me your tale!

Sebille - *Assent. Why not?*

Maol - Start from the beginning. Start from where you come.

Sebille - * Say you came from a place not so far from here.*

Maol -I see, I see... Now tell me more. Tell me what you do. Tell me what you find.

Sebille - *Say you seek to make amends.*

Maol -I understand. Now tell me how your story ends.

Sebille - *Say you hope to find something you’ve lost.*

Maol - Ah, you want reunion. Life is lonesome, yes. Life is lonesome; the thing you love is gone. I have something for you, my friend. A gift. We call the thing we lose. What we seek seeks us. This bell does the trick.

Sebille - *Thank him for the gift.*

Maol - It is nothing! Many fragments swirl on my shore. See what I gather...

II

Maol - Here you are. I wonder what keeps you. Tell me your tale.

Sebille - *Ask him what he wants to know.*

Maol - Start from the beginning. Start from where you come.

Sebille - *Recall the far-off land from which you’ve I travelled.*

Maol -I see, I see... Now tell me more. Tell me what you do. Tell me what you find.

Sebille - *Say you cannot say what you seek. *

Maol -I understand. Now tell me how your story ends.

Sebille - *Say you hope to gain great power.*

Maol - Power! Hmm, an old ambition. I have a token for you who seeks power. A gift. Power comes from strength. And strength comes from growth. These seeds sprout; so does the iron in your spine. I give my word!

III

Maol - Many fragments wash up upon these shores. Tell me what you need.

Ifan Ben-Mezd - *Say you've just arrived and you have some questions about this place.*

Maol - This beach, you mean. It is mild. Gentle waves lap the sands night and day. I do not ask for more.

Ifan Ben-Mezd - *Ask if he has anything for sale.*

Maol - Of course, of course. My fragments arc your fragments.

Ifan Ben-Mezd - *Take your leave.*

IV

The Red Prince - [RED PRINCE] ’Divulge you hail from the Ancient Empire. You lived in its fabled Forbidden City.*

Maol -I see, I see... Now tell me more. Tell me what you do. Tell me what you find.

The Red Prince - [RED PRINCE] *TelI him two things come next: restitution and revenge.*

Maol -I understand. Now tell me how your story ends.

The Red Prince - [RED PRINCE] *State it will end in death and victory. Whose death and whose victory you can’t yet say.*

Maol - You speak fiercely. You speak without fear. You are a warrior: a being of power, and ever in need of it. Power comes from strength. And strength comes from growth. These seeds sprout; so does the iron in your spine. I give my word!
