The Science! Perk is a requirement to craft certain weapon Mods, in particular mods for Energy Weapons. such as laser and plasma guns.

Depending on how powerful the mod is, you will need a higher rank of Science! in order to craft it.

Weapon type also comes into play when determining the perk rank needed.

For example, to placing a Tactical Grip on a Laser Pistol requires Science! rank 1, while putting an Amplified Beam Splitter on a Laser Rifle requires Science! Rank 2
