After Jean Grey died as a result of radiation from
reentering the Earth's atmosphere in X-Men #101,
she was seemingly reborn by the Phoenix Force.
Since Phoenix was infused with Jean Grey's
memories and experiences, the X-Men believed
her to actually be the original Jean Grey.
