Ending D chil[D]hood's end is one of the main story endings in NieR Automata.

Note: This page contains spoilers.

In-game choice

"Mustering all my strength I force out the words I'll go with you I'll Stay"

How to get Ending D

In 3rd Playthrough, for the final boss battle, choose to play as 9S, and when offered choice of dialog say "I'll Stay" (instead of "I'll go with you")

Ending D Explained

9S kills A2, can choose to either leave with Adam and Eve to find new worlds, or stay on earth. Note that there will be no more machines on earth, or if they are, they will be disconnected from the network and will no longer fight. Memory data of 2B, 9S, and A2 is deleted by pods.

Strategy Guide/Tips

  • Remember to select A2 for this ending, and when it gives you the options "I'll go I'll Stay", select "I'll Stay".
  • Once you get both Ending C and D the game will ask if you want to retrieve the data or something like that for the androids. Say yes. The credits will start rolling and once you complete the final boss fight it will ask if you want to sacrifice your save data to help others finish the boss fight (as likely you will have used others to help you and they have sacrificed their data). Only sacrifice your save data if you really plan on starting all over again! If there are quests you want I complete or other areas of the game you wanted to explore I would recommend you not delete your save data (not yet at least). You will still see Ending E regardless.
