Saarthal is a location in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Saarthal was the first "Nord" settlement in Skyrim. It was also the site of the Night of Tears, where the Snow Elves raided the city. Almost no one escaped from the massacre. It has been long thought that the Snow Elves attacked because the Eye of the Magnus, an object of great reverence to them, is found in its depths. This is said to be the cause of the attack.
