Vilkas is one of a pair of twin brothers taken in by the Companions. They were raised in their ranks. They see the whole of the Companions as their family. Vilkas is part of The Circle.
Vilkas is a master level trainer for Two-Handed Weapons.
When you complete the Companion Quest Line Vilkas can be married and can be recruited as a Follower or to the Blades.
