This page has an analysis/explanation of the events in the intro cutscene ("The Trail") of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- We are taken to a scene of a fierce combat between two armies.
- The battle is between soldiers of the Nilfgaardian Empire and the Northern Kingdoms
- This battle takes place in or near Willoughby, as indicated later from the Letter from Yennefer
- A heavily armed soldier is seen letting out a battlecry
- Yennefer is seen riding her horse through the battlefield.
- The soldier swings his sword at Yennefer's horse, decapitating it. Yennefer is knocked down to the ground.
- Cutscene fast fowards to the present day, in which Geralt and Vesemir are tracking Yennefer down. Geralt has been using his Witcher Senses to see what has transpired here.
- Geralt examines the decapitated head of Yennefer's horse, and the body of the dead soldier that attacked Yennefer. That soldier has had his eyes gouged out by Yennefer's enchanted raven.
- Yennefer escapes to the woods. A branch tears a piece of her clothes. Geralt examines that piece which is still hanging on the branch, as well as a bag filled with various books and keys that was dropped by someone which Yennefer collided with during her escape.
- Yennefer realizes she is trapped betweem the two groups of soldiers who are advancing quickly. She throws some sort of magical rock that creates a rain of stones, trapping the soldiers beneath heavy boulders.
- Yennefer gets up and grabs another horse and escapes.
- Geralt, in present time, looks towards the horizon, to the direction Yennefer fled to.
- During the escape, the artifact Yennefer used to summon the enchanted raven drops to the ground.
