The radar in Far Cry 3 shows off your location, along with enemy locations, plant locations, vehicle locations, and loot box locations.
The Radar will also show off Relic locations should the player have uncovered that location of the map.
The map, and thus the radar, for and area will only be filled out when the player has fixed the local radio tower.
