A ship exploding in No Man Sky (NMS).

While death in No Man's Sky is not permanent, there are a few penalties for dying:

Consequences of Death[edit]

  • You lose any UN-UPLOADED Discoveries you've made
  • You lose resources you had on you at the time

Unaffected by death[edit]

The following items you get to keep even if you die:

  • You don't lose any Units
  • You don't lose any upgrades to your suit

Respawning[edit]

  • If you die while on the surface of a planet, you respawn at last save point of that planet.
  • If you are flying over a planet and you crash, you respawn on the surface next to your crashed ship.
  • If you die in space, you respawn at the space station of that system.

Losing your ship[edit]

  • If you lose your ship you will have to rebuild it

Strategy Guide/Tips[edit]

  • Upload your discoveries to the Atlas as often as possible to avoid losing discoveries on death.
