“Lifting the Shroud” is a Quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Talk with Wilhelm about the barrow being haunted. He will tell you that he's seen the Ghost himself. He will also remark that the this Ghost has been very bad for business. Press him on these matters and he will tell the Dragonborn about Wyndelius Gatharian, an adventurer who went in years ago but never emerged.
Head over to Shroud Hearth Barrow in the Western part of town. It is just behind Fellstar Farm. Make your way inside the Barrow. This outer part of the barrow has no enemies, only several traps you will need to concern yourself about.
Once inside, you might see Wyndelius's Ghost past a locked gate on the right. He will be asking you to leave if there. Ignore him, you are here to figure out what happened to him and solve the mystery of the haunting. Head over to the Left. This room has 2 sets of levers, on the left and on the right. You want to pull the levers closest to the door (#2 & #3). This will raise the metal gates that were previously blocking the way forward. The right-most lever will trigger an arrow trap and the left-most will shut the newly opened doors.
Head across the room to were you potentially encountered Wyndelius's Ghost. Turn to the right as you enter this room to find a locked door (Apprentice difficulty). Pick in and head inside slowly. There is a pressure plate trap just inside the door but the trap is a short distance from the door. Just trigger it trap from just inside the door and you are safe from it. Tell your follower to wait outside the room to avoid having them trigger the trap. You can now head over to the chest. Look on the right-hand side of it to find a trap rigged to the chest (Adept level). disable it, loot the chest, then it is time to find the way forward.
Turn around and head back into the previous room. You will see another gate. To the left of it is a chained ring. Interact with it to open the way forward. Wait for both doors to open before heading through to avoid getting hit by another trap. Head down the stairs.
There are 2 doors at the bottom of the stairs. the one straight ahead of you will lead toward Wyndelius's Ghost. The one to the right is trapped and leads toward an area you can't explore until you have turn in this quest to Wilhelm.
Go through the door ahead of you. You will encounter the ghost of Wyndelius. This is a very tangible ghost that you can attack and kill. All you need is Wyndelius's Journal. Deal with Wyndelius as needed. Collect his journal then return to Wilhelm. He will thank you for your efforts and reward you.
