Summary

Farengar is happy to have gotten the Dragonstone. Balgruuf grants the Dragonborn the right to buy property in Whiterun. The Dragonborn is sent to the Western Watchtower with Irileth to fight the Dragon that is attacking it. Defeat the challenging dragon with the Soldiers to receive your first dragon soul and automatically unlock your first shout: Unrelenting Force

Walkthrough

Talk to Jarl Balgruuf

Leave the room with Farengar and Irileth. Delphine will leave Dragonreach at this point. Follow them into the next room. Go up the stairs and talk with Jarl Balgruuf. He will call over a Whiterun Guard who’s seen the dragon. The Guard will explain what happened at the Watchtower.

Balgruuf tells the Dragonborn to go with Irileth to the Western Watchtower. Leave Whiterun, going to the West as you exit the town.

Meet Irileth near the Western Watchtower

Head out of Dragonreach, and through Whiterun, to leave it. Going out of Whiterun, head to the West. Make your way out to the small rise just to the East of the Western Watchtower. There’s a marker nearby the Watchtower. Wait a few hours (or just a little while) for Irileth to approach the Tower.

Explore the Western Watchtower

Head to the West to reach the Watchtower itself. Go for the doorway of the Watchtower. You will find a Whiterun Guard who emerges from there. Talk with him to learn that the Dragon has been circling the area. Leave the Tower and it’s time to get into a hard fight.

Kill the Dragon: Mirmulnir

More than anything, you will want to fight the Dragon at a distance. Quickly fall back if the Mirmulnir’s attention gets focused on you. Keep your aim to the dragon. Take the time to move in when it lands and attack with melee weapons or magic.

Investigate the dragon

With the Dragon Mirmulnir downed, head over to its body. Getting close, you will find yourself absorbing the soul from the Dragon. The dragon’s flesh will vanish and the Dragonborn is granted a Soul. This will automatically unlock the 1 shout you’ve gotten: Unrelenting Force.

Equip the Dragon Shout (Optional)

It’s time to use your new ability, the Dragon Shout. Go into your Menu and access the Magic Menu. Switch the Shouts Tab (with its dragon language marker). In this tab, equip the Unrelenting Force Shout. Follow the Prompt to use your Shout for the first time.

This will prompt conversation between the Guards, Irileth and the Dragonborn. After all this, you want to head back to Whiterun and Dragonreach.

Report back to Jarl Balgruuf

Make your way back to Dragonreach through Whiterun. Along this way, you will hear a very loud shout originating from the nearby mountain: The Throat of the World. Once inside Dragonreach, just head to Balgruuf. Talk with him, and explain the events that just unfolded at the Western Watchtower. Balgruuf will explain that the Shout was a summons for the Dragonborn from the Greybreads. The Greybeards are monks that can use the Shouts.
