Walkthrough
Speak to KALLAX
Once you get out of Storereach, KALLAX will call for you to talk with him. Approach and talk with him. He feels vulnerable without protection and the Dragonborn makes the suggestion that they get a helmet.
Forge an Iron Shelf Protector for KALLAX
To forge the Iron Shelf Protector, you will need access to any Forge in Skyrim. This could be in Riverwood, Solitude, Whiterun, etc. Most major cities have a forge you can access. A few of the towns as well.
At the forge, scroll over to the Miscellaneous Tab. You can find the Iron Shelf Protector there. To forge it you will need to have:
- 3 Iron Ingots
- 2 Leather Strips
These are the kinds of things that are very easy to come by. Almost every weapon vendor and smith will sell them.
With the supplies on hand, you can forge the Iron Shelf Protector.
Bring the Iron Shelf Protector to KALLAX
With it in your possession, talk with KALLAX. Give it to him when presented the option. This will remind him of something lost. There are artifacts that the Master created that could jog KALLAX’s memory. You can talk with him to learn more about who he is reminded of.
Travel to Shadowgreen Cavern
To find the heirlooms that KALLAX is seeking, you need to head out toward Solitude. If you have a fresh playthough, going to any of the stables you can find a Cart to hire that will take you to any Hold Capital. Solitude happens to be just one of those.
There, you can follow the road Northwest to reach the mountains nearby it. Either you can go up, around and down or use the geometry of the mountains to carefully slide down the mountainside and reach the secluded cave. Hidden in their peaks is your destination: Shadowgreen Cavern
Find the Heirlooms in Shadowgreen Cavern
When you arrive, having gone over the mountain, you will find the entrance to Shadowgreen Cavern.
Inside the cavern, head to the East. You can head to the East and down to the lake. In the Special Edition, you can find a dead Fisherman. You can collect a Fishing Rod and a few other supplies. Turn to the Southeast and head toward the base of the column in the middle of the cavern. Approaching here, you can encounter a wolf or three.
Getting there, you will find the path leading to the East. Follow it along for it to dip underneath the fallen tree. As you approach the markers, you will see a Spriggan appear from the nearby tree as well as a Sabre Tiger. You can either defeat them or just rush for the skeleton at the foot of the tree.
Defeating those enemies will let you reach the heirlooms you are after, easily. You will find a skeleton with Svalinn’s Smartstoppare and the Allenblade. Collect those items and then go into your inventory and equip them.
With the Svalinn’s Smartstoppare and the Allenblade equipped, go and talk with KALLAX. This will awaken more memories within his wood grains. He knows that for answers, you will need to find the Assistant. The ethereal being that had (potentially) reached out to being this questline. It’s time to leave the cave and pursue this new lead.
You can optionally clear the rest of the cave. There is a Fishing Spot in here (for Special Edition and beyond) along the eastern wall.
By climbing the heights of the column, you can find a few chests. One sits at the top on the small plot of land with a tree. It’s guarded by a Spriggan and a few wolves. Another sits off to the side of the main column to the West.
