Talk with Inge Six Fingers after you have been inducted into the Bards College in Solitude. She will explain that she is sad because she was thinking about Finn's Lute. Apparently it was stolen a year ago and they have just located the bandits who did it. They have taken to hiding out in Stony Creek Cave.
