Malur Seloth is a Dark Elf who is the steward and Court Wizard to the Jarl of Winterhold. Because he is Dunmer, the townsfolk assumed he had connections to the College of Winterhold. This is how he got his present appointment. As such, he occasionally will want to keep up appearances to hold onto this position.
