Satellites in XCOM Enemy Unknown serve to spread XCOM's influence and view across the world, and lower Panic levels across the globe. By positioning a Satellite over a country, you can lower Panic levels in that country. By having an entire continent covered in satellites, you'll get huge bonuses from each country in the continent.
