Cheydinhal Mages Guild

The Cheydinhal Mages Guild is found in the Western part of town. Like in many cities, it is found nearby the Fighters Guild.

This Guild Hall specializes in the Alteration Magic School. You can talk with Deetsan for Alteration Training. Eilonwy offers a variety of alchemical ingredients. Orintur is an Altmer offers Alteration spells for sale. Trayvond the Redguard also offers Alteration spells for sale with some Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, and Mysticism

Walkthrough

Talk to Falcar

Head inside the Cheydinhal Mages Guild. You will want to find and talk with Falcar. He can be found wandering the ground floor between 7am-1pm. After 1pm he goes into the basement and passes the rest of the afternoon there, engaged in his own work. About 6pm he’ll re-emerge for 2 hours. After that, he’ll go back to the basement to sleep for the night.

Talking with Falcar he explains that a ring of his has gone missing and he needs you to go retrieve it. He suspects a now missing guild member tossed it down a well that’s locked. To get into the Well, you’ll need to get the key from Deetsan.

Talk with Deetsan

Deetsan is easy enough to find. She agrees to help you with this simple task but insist on talking with you away from Falcar. Approach her anytime Falcar is in the basement to progress the quest now.

Talking to her between 1pm-6pm will have pass on her warning about Vidkun who’s gone missing looking for this same ring. She also asks you to share anything that you learn about Vidkun while you’re looking for this ring in the well.

Ultimately she will share her spell Bouyancy, which grants water breathing and feather (which increases your carry capacity by 5 points) for 30 seconds.

With the spell obtained, it’s a lot safer to dive into the well and grab the Ring you’ve been sent to retrieve. If you have anything that grants Water Breathing in addition to the Bouyancy spell you just received, it’s a good time to equip it.

It’s entirely possible to grab the ring and swim out. The question is your carry capacity. This small ring has a weight of 150! If you have that spare, amazing, you don’t have much to worry about. If you don’t, try to get your open capacity to around 140-145 before casting Bouyancy. But that’s only if you’re interested in grabbing this useless ring.

Getting the Ring

All that said, leave the Guild Hall and circle around to the back of it. You’ll see the well easy enough. Just approach the top and interact with it to unlock it and drop in.

Once inside the well, cast the spell Bouyancy, if you need to, and swim forward. Once you’re out of the small opening, head over to the right. You’ll see a body the floor of the well. Approach it to find out it’s Vidkun. Investigate his body to find he has the Ring of Burden. As stated already, this ring has a weight of 150.

Having found Vidkun’s body is enough to progress the quest. You don’t need to reclaim the Ring of Burden. Grabbing that ring is completely optional. To swim back out of the well, return to where you entered. Look to the Northern wall to find a ladder. Interact with the ladder to return to Cheydinhal itself.

Report to Deetsan

Getting back inside the Cheydinhal Mages Guild, you will see that Falcar has gone missing. Instead, go and talk with Deetsan. Ask her about the “Recommendation.” She’ll share what’s happened since you went outside. Falcar seems to have left the guild hall at present.

Deetsan will ask you to get into his room to see if he bothered to write the Letter of Recommendation.

Investigate Falcar's Room

Head over to the lower Eastern side of the Guild Hall. You will find the door to the basement on the Northern side of the area. Go inside it.

Inside Falcar’s Room in the basement, go to the door to the West and open it up. This is Falcar’s bedroom and office. Head to the dresser next to the bed and get access into the Locked Dresser (Its difficult is leveled). Inside it you can find 2 Black Soul Gems. Collect those Black Soul Gems. You have something to bring back to Deetsan now.

Return to Deetsan

Exit the basement and go back to Deetsan. Just talk with her and she’ll respond as long as you have those Black Soul Gems in your possession. She offers to write the letter of recommendation for the Arcane University in Falcar’s stead. She thanks you for your help and revealing a truth about Falcar.
