This is part of the Mages Guild Questline. You are tasked with rescuing an Informant within the Necromantic Cult to the Guild.

Walkthrough

Report to the Arch-Mage

For the first time, you need to head up to the Arch-Mage’s Chambers proper to meet Hannibal Traven properly. Talk with him and ask about the “Task” to start this quest properly.

He’ll explain that the Council had previously been content to simply watch the Necromancer’s plans unfurl. Just there doesn’t seem to be that safely anymore and they need to directly interfere. But first, you need to get the informant out of the Cult.

You are tasked with the extraction of Mucianus Allias. Previously a group of battle mages had been prepared apparently, against Traven’s recommendation. Traven wants you go oversee this and ensure Allias’s fair treatment.

Rescue Mucianus Allias

Mucianus Allias had last been reported to have gone to the ruins of Nenyond Twyll. This is just South of the Imperial City (and where the Battlemages had been dispatched). It’s South of the White Rose River, nearly halfway to Elsweyr.

Travel out to the proper area and get as close as you can to the site. After that, head tot he main part of the ruins and go inside, taking the stairs down to the door to enter.

Nenyond Twyll

Once inside the Ruins, you’ll meet Fithragaer. He’s surprised you were sent alone but calls on you to help him and press the attack against the necromancers. He’ll go charging ahead.

In the first chamber, Fithragaer runs directly into a trap that launches him into ceiling Spikes. This (usually) kills him. Quickly deal with the Undead in the room after that. No more support, it’s just you. Get to the Eastern end of the room. Look to the right hand shelf to find an Ayleid Cask to loot.

Head down the Southeastern corridor out of this first chamber. Likely at the base of the stairs you’ll encounter a Necromancer. Turn to the left and open the gate into the next chamber. There’s another Necromancer in the larger chamber. There’s another along the Northeastern corridor.

Go to the Southeastern corridor and open the door there. You’ll find an undead beyond it. There are shelves on each side with Ayleid Chests and Casks. Just nearby you’ll find the door leading into the next level, Nenyond Twyll Riellesel. Go on through.

Nenyond Twyll Riellesel

Just through the door, you’ll find Mariette Rielle. She has a bit to say, but makes it clear that Mucianus Allias is dead. She intends you for to join him as a Thrall. Take the nearby stairs down and head through the door in front of you. An Undead is likely waiting in the next room.

Go to the East and around the corner to find another Necromancer. Nearby is a shelf with an Ayleid Cask Locked (Average). Now, turn to the Northwest and start carefully across the bridge. There are a few more Necromancers. But there is also Red Crystal that will attack you with energy blasts.

You can search the Northern wall in the far portion of the room will give you an Ayleid Cask sitting on a shelf. Go to the Western wall to find a Crystal switch nearby. This opens a section of wall nearby to the right. There’s an Undead in this room. This is Mucianus Allias. There’s only one thing to do for him.

Report Mucianus Allias’s Fate

Deal with the undead Mucianus Allias and leave the chamber.

Return to the larger room and head to the South and out the door leading back to Nenyond Twyll.

Go up the stairs to the chamber between the sets. You’ll find another Necromancer to deal with. Searching around on the left-hand side (Eastern) of the room you can find a few chests. Sweep behind the banner on the wall to find a hidden Ayleid Cask Locked (Average) as well.

Having explored all that, take the stairs on up into the next corridor. It looks like a dead-end, but you will want to step on the pressure plate to lower the nearby walls in front of you. This brings you back to the first chamber of the ruins.

Turn to the Northwest and take the stairs there up and out. Fast Travel back to the Arcane University. You’ll want to find and talk with Hannibal Traven to report what’s happened to Mucianus Allias. Traven is sadden at his passing and worried by what it means. He’ll have another task for you when you’re ready. But end the conversation for now.

Promotion

Following this, go back to the lobby and find Raminus Polus. Talk to him about a Promotion and you’ll be boosted to the rank of Warlock.
