Oblivion Remastered: The Renegade Shadowscale Guide

Track down the rogue Shadowscale Scar-Tail in Cyrodiil’s southern swamps. Decide whether to kill or spare him. Earn the Boots of Bloody Bounding.

This is a sidequest only available to members of the Dark Brotherhood. The Hero must have completed, "Scheduled for Execution."

Talking with the hooded Argonian Teinaava — Talking with Teinaava within the Sanctuary to start the Quest

You can start this quest by going and talk with Teinaava. It helps that he is actively trying to get your help here. He can be found within the Cheydinhal Brotherhood Sanctuary.

Accept "The Renegade Shadow-Scale"

Teinaava will explain that a Shadowscale has gone rogue. If pressed for details he'll explain the awkward situation that's arisen here. Normally he or Ocheeva would be hunting a rogue assassin, but they're both Shadowscales. This means that Scar-Tail is protected by a similar tenets to that of members of the Dark Brotherhood.

Your target is found in the Southern portion of Cyrodiil in a location called Bogwater. His name is Scar-Tail. Teinaava will ask you to kill Scar-Tail and bring him his heart as proof. With all that information gathered, it's time to start hunting your target.

Travel to Bogwater

Leave the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and head for Leyawiin, or the closest location you can travel to for Bogmarsh. After that, you will need to travel the rest of the way on your own. Either on foot, or on horse.

Regardless of how you get there. You will easily be able to find Scar-Tail when you approach. He'll be shirtless and pacing about the small camp. Approach him (if desired) and you can talk with him. otherwise, you can easily just charge in and kill him.

Talking with Scar-Tail, he will offer to give over his gold if you spare him. He even suggests using the heart of a nearby Shadow-Scale he had to kill. The problem Scar-Tail has is he was badly hurt in that fight.

Make Your Choice

The Hero is presented with 2 dialogue options at this point. Your choices are:

"Die, traitor" and begin fighting the weakened Scar-Tail
"Sure. It's a deal." and he'll tell you where to find his treasure.

Claim Scar-Tail's Heart

If you fight Scar-Tail, you will need to be sure to claim his heart. It really is as he thought it would be. He's weak from his previous fight. Scar-Tail goes down very quickly to just a few attacks.

Claim the Gold

The gold is already hidden in the Hollow Rock, so even if you kill Scar-Tail you can claim it. That is, if you know where to look. Head to the campsite and look for the hollowed-out rock nearby the camp fire.

Go to the campfire and look to the large rock just East of it. You'll see its a container with the name "Hollowed-Out Rock."

Find the Shadow-Scale Body

The Hero doesn't need to go far to find the Dead Argonian Agent. Just head to the tree to the West of the Bogwater Camp. Look on the Western side of, along the base of the truck to find the body.

Return to Teinaava

Teinaava congratulates the Hero on their return with an Argonian Heart.

Either with Scar-Tail's heart or the Argonian Agent's heart in tow, you are ready to return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Travel on back to Cheydinhal. Return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.

Once inside, you just need to find Teinaava once again. Approach and talk with him. He'll immediately recognize that you have an Argonian Heart (regardless of whose it was). He'll thank you for taking care of this ugly business. He'll then reward the Hero with "The Boots of Bloody Bounding."

This Light Armor Boots scale based on the level they are acquired. In all instances they have an Armor Rating of 2, weight of 7, and a durability of 75.
