Before leaving the area where you met Solas and Varric, head up the stairs toward the destroyed door, and search the ground near the ruins for loot
Then go back down the stairs, jump over the obstacle, and head down the path until you encounter some enemies, including a Greater Shade
After the fight you could take a detour up the hillside to the southwest past the waterfall. You will find a small alcove with some enemies as well as a corpse which has loot on it. When you are done here, go back to the main path.
Continue down the road an up the hill, eventually you reach the gate of the Forward Camp. There is a Rift in front of the entrance to the camp which spawns some demons, kill them.
