Backstory[edit]

DiMA is one of two prototype Synths that were in-between the second and third generation of them. DiMA was allowed to develop his own personality while Nick Valentine, whom he considers a brother, was imprinted with a person's personality and memory. It was DiMA who orchestrated his and Nick escape from the Institute. Nick was still suffering from the effects of the experiments and attacked DiMA, forcing DiMA to leave Nick behind after knocking him out. He eventually made his way to Far Harbor. He spent a year in a cave simply because he lacked any direction. After this time he emerged and set out to define himself. Outwardly, he is very friendly and seems to want nothing more than peace on the Island between the Arcadians, the Harbormen and the Children of Atom. He was friends with the former leader of the Children of the Atom and seems to be in decent standing with the Harbormen.

DiMA helped ensure a truce between the factions on the Island. Working with the Harbormen, he has encouraged them to allow Acadia to use their pier as a port of trade. This brings in caps for the Harbormen and needed parts for the Synths in Arcadia. He gave something to the Children of Atom as a sign of trust as well. It is hidden inside the Sub behind layers of pre-war security.

SPOILERS[edit]

The truth of the Island and DiMA's involvement is well shrouded. He devised contingency plans to ensure the safety of Acadia against the Harbormen and the Children. For the Harbormen, he can remotely shut down the power source of Far Harbor. This would lead to the deaths of all its inhabitants with the Fog moving in and they being unable to repel the creatures of the fog. For the Children of Atom, DiMA possesses the detonation key for the nuclear missile that sits within the sub. If activated, the sub will be destroyed.

DiMA did know the former leader of the Children of Atom which ensured peace between the Synths and the Arcadians. This was done with his gift of the Sub, The Nucleus, which is now their temple of Worship. The Harbormen were more adamant about no one else inhabiting the Island. To this end, DiMA killed and replaced Captain Avery to ensure the Harbormen would have a moderate voice who would stand up for the Outsiders and Mainlanders who came to the island. He feels a lot of guilt and remorse over this course of action.

DiMA, being a prototype Synth was not designed to function as long as he has. He has been extensively modified, including being able to off-load and download his memories. Many of his memories were put onto Storage Devices that he gave to the Children of the Atom for safe keeping. These include his murder of Captain Avery and the contingency plans for either faction. He cannot bear the guilt of the murder he committed or his plans of mass murder.
