Uncle Po

Uncle Po, full name David Wa-Lin Po, is the dragon head and chairman of the Sun On Yee Triad.

History[edit]

Uncle Po is a lifelong member of the Sun On Yee who eventually became dragon head.

He first rose to prominence in 1981, when he was made a Red Pole. Police officer Thomas Pendrew led several raids against the gang, which killed many members. Uncle Po assisted in these raids in order to target and kill his opposition, thus securing himself a route to the top.

This would prove to be the first of several deals between Po and Pendrew. Later on, Po sold out the Three Tigers, the trio of Sun On Yee leaders, clearing a path to leadership in the Sun On Yee. Po's relationship with Pendrew also secured him immunity from many mid to minor crimes, which the police turned a blind eye to. In exchange, Po would try to lower the levels of on-street violence in his gang. In order to facilitate this, Po became somewhat of a recluse, hiding in his penthouse from the violence outside.

Game Story[edit]

The events of Sleeping Dogs saw Po in conflict with Big Smile Lee, a Red Pole with eyes for the chairman's spot. Lee began a civil war within the gang, planning to come out on top in the bid for succession. As the conflict between the two fragments of the gang escalated, Winston and Wei kidnapped Siu Wah, a member of the Water Street Gang, in order to put a stop to the violence caused by Dogeyes and his segment of the gang. Uncle Po made them answer for their hasty actions, but came away impressed by Wei's loyalty to Winston. He was also impressed by the fact that Wei was able to convince Winston to keep Siu alive.

Po would next be seen in attendance at Winston's wedding to Peggy Li. As Wei was busy retrieving drinks from Winston's car, the 18K attacked the wedding disguised as catering staff and murdered the bride and groom. Po was wounded in the attack. Wei quickly ran to Po's rescue and dragged him bleeding out of the wedding, fighting off members of the 18K along the way. Po would remain in intensive care for the next few days. Weakened, Po appointed a temporary chairman until a proper election could be held. His first choice was Pockmark, but the position ended up going to Two Chin because of his blood relation to Po. As the Red Poles made their exit, Po gave them a warning. Stop fighting amongst yourselves, or risk destroying the entire gang.

As Po lay weakened in the hospital, several attempts were made on his life by the 18K. The successful attempt came from a surprising source, though; Pendrew himself injected Po with poison in order to silence him and further his own career.
