Oblivion Remastered: Bravil Recommendation Guide

Recover a stolen Mage’s Staff in the Bravil Recommendation quest for the Mages Guild. Either buy or steal the staff back.

The Bravil Recommendation is 1 of 7 quests that need to be completed to properly join the Mages Guild.

Bravil Mages Guild

This Guild Hall in Bravil specializes in Illusion magic. You can talk with Dephine Jend for a variety of spells (which includes her famous “Enemies Explode” spell). Ita Rienus offers mostly Illusion spells. During the hours of 10pm -12am, you can buy spells from Ungarion.

Walkthrough

Report to Kud-Ei

Once inside Bravil, you will need to head for the Southern part of town. Find the bridge that connects the two part of the town. You’ll easily find the Guild Hall after that sitting to the West of the foot of it.

Go inside and search for the Argonian Kud-Ei. She is the leader of the Guild Hall. Approach and talk with her. She’ll explain that this recommendation requires you to retrieve a Mage’s Staff. She wants you to go and talk with Varon Vamori in the Imperial City. Be sure to talk to her about “Ardaline,” “Varon Vamori,” and “Mages Staff.” This will net you the most information and support items.

To help you deal with Varon Vamori, she will provide you with a Beguile Scroll. She explains that its for you to use in case he’s uncooperative.

Locate Varon Vamori

You need to find Varon Vamori to make progress. There are a few locations that he can be: His House, the Guild Hall, in the Chapel or in Silverhome on the Water (If it’s late at night, then just head for his house to the North of the Guild Hall).

Once you find him, start either by casting Beguile from the scroll or raising his disposition through the mini-game or bribery. Once his disposition is 65+ you can talk to him about Ardaline and get direct answers. He’ll admit to taking the staff but also that he sold it to Soris Arenim in the Talos District of the Imperial City.

Return to Kud-Ei

Make your way back to the Bravil Mages Guild. Find Kud-Ei again. Talk with her once more. She’ll be disappointed with the turn of events. But she does give you 3 more Beguiling Scrolls and send you off to collect the Staff.

Locate Soris Arenim

Head out of the Mages Guild and make for the Imperial City’s Talos District.

Arriving at the fast travel point, you will want to head to the left (North) from it. Just a short distance up, the second door on the right, you will find your destination. Head on inside.

Talk to Soris Arenim

Inside the building, you can easily find both Soris Arenim and Erissare Arenim. Go and talk with Soris to get things started. He won’t just give up the staff. If you get his disposition above 70+, he’ll offer to sell you the Mage’s Staff for 200 gold. Once he’s made the offer, it will remain available through the end of the quest.

Talk to Erissare Arenim

Either before or after talking with Soris, you can talk with his wife Erissare. She’s confused about the Mage’s Staff. But with a 75+ disposition, she’ll at least mention that it’s kept down in the basement. She will also mention that Soris keeps a copy of the basement key in his desk.

At this point, you have 2 choices: Pay for the Staff or Steal the Staff.

Buying the Mage’s Staff Back

Taking this path, just talk with Soris again about the Mage’s Staff. He’ll make the offer once again. Just accept the offer and he’ll give you it to you taking the 200 gold.

Stealing the Staff

If you don’t want to part with your hard-earned gold, this is the alternative path. You can pickpocket a Basement Key from either Erissare or Soris.

An alternative is to go for the upstairs, lockpicking your way into his office and desk to get the Basement Key.

If you’re skilled, the Basement Door is Locked (Average). If you want to steal it, wait until they’re both asleep (anytime after midnight is a safe bet). Once the Arenims are asleep, slip inside and see about either getting the key or just breaking into their basement.

Once inside the basement, take the stairs down. Go to the middle, where you can see the pillar. Look for the set of drawers on the Eastern side of the pillar. The drawers are Locked (Hard). Get them open and you can claim the Mage’s Staff inside. Slip back outside and leave town after that.

Return to Kud-Ei

Make your way back to the Bravil Mages Guild. Once again, find and talk with Kud-Ei. Report to her that you’ve gotten the Mage’s Staff and she’ll be overjoyed at this news.
