Original Mode is the less challenging of the two pack-in modes in Metro: Last Light.
In Original Mode, ammo is more plentiful and survival goes on the back burner to gameplay. This mode is for the those new to the series, and more interested in the story and the shooting than in surviving.

If this is your first playthrough of Metro: Last Light, we recommend you select Original Mode.
HUD, UI and in-game elements are enabled, and ammunition is plentiful enough so that non-stealth tactics can be successfully used in combat.
